Near the end of a winding gravel road, past green fields and pine forests, nestled in the foothills of the magnificent Tararua Forest Park, Arete Retreat waits patiently to embrace you.

At Arete we have combined the spirit of simple living with the comforts of contemporary habitation. Eight striking whare, situated in pairs, find their place nestled amongst native forest, amongst tranquil nooks and beneath calming canopies; meandering pathways connect to the wharenui where groups come together to dine, share and socialise.

The main wharenui, warmed by two log fires, is used as both the social and facilitation space.

Part of the wider Makahika Outdoor Pursuits Centre property, our valley is home to an array of adventurous activities; from high ropes and zip lines to bushcraft and wilderness exploration.
